Wool and needles provided. All are welcome – you don’t even have to be good
Tuesday 27 November. 7:30pm onwards, Hare and Hounds, Birmingham.
I’m very pleased to announce our next project here at Stitches and Hos ‘Festive Knit Up’.
We will be decorating Stitches and Hos HQ the back bar of Hare and Hounds pub for the festive season. As ever I am looking for people to help with the knitting. You will need to be able to follow a pattern and knit to a given size and gauge. All wool will be provided. If you are interested in taking part please get in touch info@stitchesandhos.co.uk
We will also be holding a pompom party at our next monthly hootenanny on Tuesday 27 November. There’s a Facebook event thingy here and I’ll put up the details in the next blog post.
Right then, back to my knitting
Next week Stitches and Hos will be holding a practical workshop for adults at Ikon Gallery. We’ll be looking at the themes and ideas in the current Sarah Browne exhibition in a fun and informal way.
Thursday 1 March, 2-4pm at Ikon Gallery
Places are free but limited, please contact Ikon Gallery to reserve your place.
If you can’t make it along to the workshop I highly recommend a trip to Ikon. Both the Sarah Browne and Hamish Fulton exhibitions are great. They also do homemade cake in the cafe.
Also don’t forget next Tuesday (28 Feb) is our regular monthly knitting hootenanny at Hare and Hounds. We’ll be in the back bar from 7:30pm. Sounds to stitch to by Helga Henry and Gemma Thomas. Wool and needles provided. You don’t even have to be good!
On Tuesday we had our first regular meet of the year. A big thank you to all that braved the sub zero temperatures to come along. It was good to see so many new faces (and a few old ones).
We had sounds to stitch to by Adam Chambers from ColdRice. A mix of 60’s garage, RnB and soul anthems. Thanks very much Adam for a really great set.
Here’s a few pictures from the night
Don’t forget our next monthly hootenanny is on Tuesday 28 February from 7:30pm onwards, back bar, Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath, Birmingham. Sounds to stitch to provided by Helga Henry and Gemma Thomas.
See you then
This week saw another edition of our monthly knitting hootenanny. I actually forgot (until today) that Tuesday’s event marked our 3rd anniversary of hosting our hootenanny’s at the Hare and Hounds. I don’t say this often enough but we have a great home in the Hare and Hounds. The staff and management are a pleasure to work with, always helpful and are known to pick up a pair of needles once in a while. So I’ll take this opportunity to raise my (virtual) glass and say a big thank you to all at the Hare and Hounds.
My second lot of thanks goes to everyone who came out on Tuesday. I was glad to see some familiar faces and a few new ones. It seems that us stitchers are still turning heads and getting perplexed faces from regular drinkers.
Finally a big thank you to Adrian King for providing sounds to stitch to. Here are some pictures from the night
Next month (April 26th) we’ll be holding a Stitches and Hos Fundraiser to help restock the coiffers with a fresh batch of wool. They’ll be a prize raffle, cake stand and sounds to stitch to provided by Matt Snowden (Dream Dreams the Dreamer) and Bethan McKnight (Atta Girl). More details in the next few days
A group of S&H stitchers are working on a top secret project. I can’t tell you anything about it (yet) but I can show you some photos of our work in progress.
Don’t forget our monthly knitting hootenanny is tomorrow eve (Tues 29 March) from 7:30pm in back bar at Hare and Hounds.
This Tuesday saw February’s edition of our monthly knitting hootenanny. A big thank you to all who came along.
A really big thank you to Helga Henry and Gemma Thomas for providing sounds to stitch to. It was Helga’s debut at DJ’ing but she sounded like a real pro. There were some nerves at the beginning but a quick blast of Tom Tom Club soon put paid to those. A rather nice touch was a smoochy Robert Palmer track to end their set. Helga even managed to do a bit of knitting whilst DJ’ing.
Here are some pictures from the night
Don’t forget our next hootenanny is on Tuesday 29 March from 7:30pm onwards in back bar, Hare and Hounds, York Road, Birmingham.
We have some plans afoot here at S&H Towers. I’ll be posting some teasers leading up to the big event over the next few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled stitchers!
Well a happy new year to you all from us here at Stitches and Hos. Hope you all had a pleasant festive season.
I’m sure now that its the end of January you stop saying Happy New Year to people. Is there a rule? Like no April Fools jokes after midday?
Our first event of the year was on Tuesday night. It all started with a short delay (thanks for waiting patiently) because of a leaking light fixture in the back bar. A hunt for a floodlight, then a new bulb for floodlight and the night was underway. It has to be said that all the staff at Hare and Hounds are always helpful and really resourceful. Thank you Katie!
Also a big thank you to Chris and Tom for providing sounds to stitch to. Also I had an proposition from a new member called Shirley. She suggested that we contact a wool store or producer to see if we can get a group discount. I think its a great idea – what do you think?
Here are some pictures from the night – it seems they are a bit dark. Looks like I should read my camera manual again
Well it seems that you all had a lovely time at August stitches and hos whilst I was away on holiday. I want to say a big thank you to Lucy and Juliet for holding the reins while I went camping.
Also a big thank you to Claire and Peter for providing sounds to stitch to. If you liked what you heard Claire and Paul also DJ at ATTA GRRL at The Victoria, Birmingham. Their next event is on 3rd October.
Next event – Tuesday 29 September from 7:30pm onwards, Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath, Birmingham
