Yarningham 2020 Postponed

postponedIG

We have taken the difficult decision to postpone Yarningham 2020 until next year. This has not been an easy decision to make but we feel that this is the right thing to do in the context of this unprecedented global public health situation.

The UK government and Public Health England have indicated that restrictions may need to be in place for several months. There is so much uncertainty around how this situation is unfolding and this makes it nearly impossible to plan and produce a festival for July. Additionally, there may still be warnings in place for those in higher risk categories to stay away from public spaces and it would be against the core values of Yarningham as an inclusive event to run an event that excludes the most vulnerable members of our community.

Our new dates will be Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July 2021.

So, what do you do now?

All existing tickets will be valid for our new dates in July 2021. We are currently working with our workshop tutors to replicate our workshop programme for next year. In the event that the workshop you have booked is no longer available you will be given a face value refund.

If the new dates are not suitable for you, you are also entitled to a refund. Our ticket website partner We Got Tickets will be in touch with all ticket holders with details of how to request a refund should you need or want one. Please bear with them as they are processing an unprecedented number of refunds, cancellations and postponements for thousands of events.

For us, our exhibitors, workshop tutors and everyone involved with Yarningham this decision is devastating. We have been working hard behind the scenes to make this year’s festival the best yet.  We ask that you consider supporting them in any way you can during this time. A full list of our exhibitors is available here.

We want to thank you all for your support and we know that you will share our disappointment.

Stay safe, take care of yourselves and we hope to see you in 2021.

TEAM YARNINGHAM

Meet Stephen West

AW 2018 Westknits, designs by Stephen West

Meet Stephen West. Stephen West’s shawl designs and innovative use of colour have helped him become an internationally recognised and respected designer.

Stephen was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He studied dance at the University of Illinois, where he encountered his first local yarn store, Klose Knit in Urbana. The creative atmosphere of that local shop spurred Stephen to start designing patterns, and he was soon featured in Knitty’s fall 2009 issue with his Colonnade Shawl. Not long after, he moved to Amsterdam, publishing more patterns and launching a series of pattern books under the name Westknits.

He continues to produce pattern books and hosts several online knit-alongs each year. His simple, clean, architectural designs have now been knitted by thousands of knitters all around the world.

Stephen has taught workshops throughout the United States and internationally in Finland, Denmark, Germany, Italy, France, Israel, Iceland, UK, and Amsterdam where he co-owns Stephen & Penelope, a yarn boutique in the city centre. In 2019 Stephen and his business partner Malia Mae Joseph realised a long-held dream by launching their first yarn brand, West Wool.

Stephen will be teaching two workshops at Yarningham 2020.  Colour Play the Westknits Way on Saturday 11 July and Shawl Evolution on Sunday 12 July. For more information and to book your ticket, which includes marketplace entry for the day of the workshop, visit our website here.

Meet Imogen Morris

Me1

Meet Imogen Morris. Imogen is a Birmingham based embroidery artist who creates hand stitches pieces in a polygonal style.

Imogen hand stitches triangles to form a mesh-like frame that creates the form of an image. The hard, jagged shape of the triangle contrasts with the softness of the embroidery thread.

The subjects of Imogen’s work ranges from animals, portraiture and more recently, Imogen has been creating large scale abstract pieces. However, the two elements that always remain in her practice are thread and the shape of the triangle.

Imogen will be teaching a polygonal embroidery workshop on Saturday 11 July exploring geometric design.  The workshop is open to all and no embroidery experience is needed.  For more information and to book your ticket, which includes marketplace entry for the day of the workshop, visit our website here.

Meet Sylvia Watts-Cherry

FACE SHOT1

Meet Sylvia Watts-Cherry. Sylvia is a UK based designer who loves bold patterns and striking colours. She learned to knit at the age of 8 and is a prolific knitter, using her African heritage as well as her Scottish upbringing for inspiration.

Sylvia was a runner up in Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas Jumper in 2018, with her African inspired Christmas sweater and has had patterns published in Knit Now and Pompom Quarterly magazines. Her most recognisable pattern to date is the Nubian Queen jumper.  The design went viral on social media in early 2019.

A qualified teacher, Sylvia uses her skills in teaching Intarsia colourwork workshops and other knitting techniques.

We are delighted that Sylvia will be designing our second exclusive pattern for our 5th birthday brochure.

Our 5th birthday brochure is only available at Yarningham Marketplace.

Gurinder specialises in designing fun, bright designs for kids and kids at heart! Her patterns have appeared in Inside Crochet, Crochet Now, Your Crochet and Knitting magazines.

We are delighted that Gurinder has agreed to design an exclusive crochet pattern for our 5th Birthday Brochure.  Being from Birmingham, Yarningham is a very special event for her.
