2018 Workshop Tutors : Nathan Taylor

We are so pleased to welcome back Nathan Taylor, (aka Sockmatician) to this year’s Yarningham.  We are big fans of his podcast and he made such an impression on us, we had to invite him back.

Nathan Taylor is obsessed with double- knitting.  He has been knitting and designing seriously since 2011. His passion is for sharing his knowledge of DK with as many people as possible.  Pushing the boundaries, and furthering what is possible within the realms of this addictive and beautiful technique.

His first published design was in Knit Now! Magazine, and in 2015, he was approached by Vogue Knitting Magazine in the USA to design a DK Shawl for their Fall 2015 issue.

Nathan hosts a very popular knitting podcast on YouTube, and particularly champions male knitters.  His YouTube channel also has tutorials for the many and varied techniques involved in knitting his patterns, and Nathan is dedicated to making these tutorials as friendly and as easy to understand as possible.

Nathan has been teaching double knitting classes since 2014, and enjoys nothing more than seeing that lightbulb moment, when someone’s brain clicks, and he knows that a new DK’er has been born.

Taking a class with Nathan is not the same as sitting at home watching one of his tutorials. He has a boundless enthusiasm for the subject and limitless patience with the process.  Nathan gives the kind of teaching that just can’t be found anywhere else.  He makes each knitter feel like that are being taught in a one-to-one session, regardless of the size of the class.

Nathan will be leading two workshops at Yarningham 2018.  Demystifying Double Knitting and Shaping: The Future of Double Knitting.  For more information on Nathan’s workshops and to book a place, please visit our website.

2018 Workshop Tutors : Karie Westermann

Karie Westermann does things with wool & words. She is a designer, teacher & general wool enthusiast. Her work combines her love of storytelling, art and woolly yarns as she is a big believer in knitting never being “just knitting”.

Karie relaxes by doing pub quizzes, biking around Glasgow on her red bike, and dabbling in dress-making. Her latest project, This Thing of Paper, a knitting book inspired by medieval manuscripts and books, was released in November 2017.

Karie will be leading two workshops at Yarningham this year.  Knitting the Landscape and Knitting Hap Shawls.  For more information and to book a place on Karie’s workshops, please visit our website.

2018 Workshop Tutors : Deborette Clarke

Based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, Deborette Clarke designs and makes small leather goods under the label B18 Leather.

Deborette Clarke is a fun loving creative who has many years experience as an educator, designer and maker. She began working with leather after attending a few workshops and deciding to experiment further by purchasing a pre-owned leather sewing machine.

Shapes are simple and colour is key with some pieces being hand painted using a variety of methods. The skin or hide is treated as a blank canvas for experimentation.

For Yarningham 2018 Deborette has designed a bespoke workshop for us where you can make your own leather purse.  Perfect for storing items for your latest stitch project or use it as a day-to- day pouch.

For more information about Debotette’s workshop and to book a place, please visit our website.

2018 Workshop Tutors : Anna Maltz

When she isn’t globetrotting to eat ice cream, meet friends and teach knitting, you can find her at home in London. As a teacher her main goal is to share knowledge and inspire, whatever your level of skill and confidence.

Anna will be leading two workshops at this year’s Yarningham.  Wing it Colourwork Sweater and Introduction to Marlisle.  For more information and to book a place on Anna’s workshops, please visit our website.
