Vintage Knitting

Well it’s not one post today but two.  The weekend before last I was privileged to be working at Clothes Show Live with Clothkits running knitting taster workshops.  It was such great fun. There was a large workshop area including a fleet of brand new Janome sewing machines, a seemingly endless stock of haberdashery and more wool than you could shake a stick at.

Although our making area wasn’t as busy as other parts of the show, I had a wonderful time teaching people to knit and create simple and beautiful items.

Just in front of the Clothkits work area was Susuan Crawford‘s Vintage Knitting stand.  Susan is the author of A Stitch in Time, a volume of original and updated versions of knitting and crochet patterns from the 1920s to 1949.  Well I had to buy myself a copy and set myself a challenge.

I’ve never been able to start and finish a complete garment but I’m hoping the beautiful garments in Susan’s book will be the inspiration I need.  Of course, I will have to buy some lovely wool to knit my garment with.  Looks like I’ll have to take another shopping trip to Stitch Perfect.

Bad Records, Strange Vinyl

Its taken a little while for me to find the time to write this post.  I really do apologise – it seems that life has got in the way of blogging.

Last month was our Bad Records, Strange Vinyl night.  We asked you to bring along your best (or worst) vinyl finds from charity shops, car boot sales or bric or brac stores.  The idea originally came from Fiona Cullinan when she responded to my DJ call out.

Well there certainly were some vinyl treats.  My particular favourite was an guitar ABBA instrumental and a Sindy single.

Here are some pictures from the night
